The 3,618-acre municipal park encompasses both sides of Big Chico Creek Canyon for a full five miles up into the foothills, making it a truly spectacular retreat. There's really no park like it anywhere.
Annie Bidwell deeded the original property--some 2,238 acres--to the City of Chico on July 10, 1905, along with the Children's Park downtown, and since then it has remained in the public trust. |

His early years were spent moving around New England with his family. He had very little formal education and apprenticed with his father at the trades of carpenter and joiner.
He married Susan Haskell at Northborough, Massachusetts in 1820 and continued working as a carpenter. Guided by his father's example, Ide followed the frontier as it gradually moved westward.

Description : Located at the west end of Sacramento Avenue, about 4.5 miles outside Chico, this little park is a great place to visit when you are short on time or you might take your lunch with you and eat at one of the picnic tables while checking out the birds in the canopy above you. The park has two short trail loops on each side of the picnic area with an Oxbow lake along the back (West). River Otter and turtles are often seen on the lake. The total hiking distance of the two trails is about three-quarters of a mile.

Description : Burney falls trail was closed throughout the summer and fall of 2010 for repairs, they are now complete and the trail is again open. The park is within the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau natural region, with forest and five miles of streamside and lake shoreline, including a portion of Lake Britton. The park's centerpiece is the 129-foot Burney Falls, which is not the highest or largest waterfall in the state, but possibly the most beautiful. Additional water comes from springs, joining to create a mist-filled basin. Burney Creek originates from the park's underground springs and flows to Lake Britton, getting larger along the way to the majestic falls. |

Description : Weaverville Joss House Historic Park
The Weaverville Joss House, a Taoist Temple of Worship, is now a state park and is the oldest still-in-use Chinese Temple in California. The adjoining priest's quarters and community meeting room was also a combination social hall, fraternity house and travelers' hotel, and served as a home for the priest and his family.
The current Joss House was built in 1874, after previous structures had been destroyed by a series of fires. After many of the contents of the temple were taken during a robbery in 1934, the historical significance of the temple and its contents were realized. |

The lake, located about 75 miles north of Sacramento, was created by higher-than-Hoover Oroville Dam in 1967. Description : Ahjumawi is a place of exceptional, even primeval, beauty. Brilliant aqua bays and tree studded islets only a few yards long dot the shoreline of Ja-She Creek, Crystal Springs, and Horr Pond. Of the park's 6000 acres, over two thirds of the area is covered by recent (three to five thousand years) lava flows including vast areas of jagged black basalt.
The park is a wilderness area and most of the it is extremely rugged lava rock. Be sure someone knows where you are going and when you expect to return. Visitors should prepare adequately for their visit. Travel off the trails requires proper preparation and equipment. |

Description : In the southern Cascade foothills, approximately twenty miles east of Red Bluff, California, lies the Ishi Wilderness, a unique 41,000 acre, low-elevation wilderness. This is a land incised by wind and water, dotted with basaltic outcroppings, caves, and bizarre pillar lava formations. This is up and down country, a series of east-west running ridges framed by rugged river canyons.
The Ishi is named for a Yahi Yana Indian who was the last survivor of his tribe, who lived in the area for over three thousand years. Shortly after 1850, the white settlers killed all but a handful of the Yahi. |
Feather Falls

Description : Don’t leave your camera behind. Feather Falls National Scenic Trail offers you an incredible view of Bald Rock Dome, Bald Rock Canyon, and the 640-foot waterfall, Feather Falls. The trail to the falls forks about a quarter of a mile down the path. The lower trail to the left is shorter at about 3.5 miles, but more difficult due to occasionally steep elevation changes. This trail is primarily downhill to the falls three quarters of the way. The final quarter is primarily uphill. The upper trail to the right is about 4.5 miles and makes the trip to the falls much more gradually. |
