Opened in 1932 to display "relics" of the area's pioneers; the great room resembles an over-sized miner's cabin. The "new"(1960) addition contains reconstructions of pioneer era home rooms, and many other artifacts of their daily lives. Come see the replica of the Dogtown Nugget, one of the largest nuggets found in California.

Sisson Museum

Description : Mount Shasta City was know as the town of Sisson until it was renamed in 1924. The museum building was erected in 1906 and served as the main hatchery building of the California Department of Fish and Game Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery until it was declared no longer usable 72 years later. A group of civic minded citizens obtained a lease on the building and start-up funding from the state under the umbrellas of the local Chamber of Commerce, and the building was renovated depending heavily on donated material and labor. The Museum has welcomed more than 298,000 visitors since it opened in 1983, and we hope you will visit soon. The Sisson Museum is located 1/4 mile west of the central Mount Shasta I-5 interchange on the fish hatchery grounds. |

The Trinity Pioneer Association and the Society of Old Settlers, an organization consisting of pioneers who arrived in the community prior to 1860, preceded the Historical Society.The Jake Jackson Museum and the History Center are projects of the Society for research and learning for the public use.

Kelly Griggs Museum

Description : The classical Victorian home was built in the 1880s by Sidney Allen Griggs and bought by the Kelly family in the 1930s.
It features Victorian-dressed mannequins and various artifacts and furnishings of the time, including local Native American artifacts.
The Kelly-Griggs House Museum Association was organized in 1965, as a nonprofit, educational corporation for the sole purpose of purchasing the 1880 house to renovate and preserve it.
The museum is supported entirely by donations and memberships. Admission is by voluntary donation. |

Fort Crook Museum

Description : Fort Crook was established on July 1, 1857, to protect travelers on the Shasta - Yreka Road and the Lockhart Ferries. Built by Company A, 1st Dragoons under the command of Captain John W. T. Gardner, the fort consisted of 25 - 30 log buildings enclosed by a pine-pole stockade 12 feet high.It was located on the Fall River Valley about 7 miles north of the current museum grounds. Originally called Camp Hollenbush, the outpost was soon renamed in honor of Lt. George Crook, then in command of Company D, 4th Infantry. Crook became a General during the Civil War and gained national fame as both a fighter of and advocate for the Plains Indians. |
