About Tehama
The town of Tehama CA was founded by Robert Thomas in 1845. Tehama is an Indian word which means either high water, low land, salmon, or even shallow. Any of these could be an accurate description of the town since the river that runs through it is low enough to see salmon during their runs and winter floods are a regular occurrence. The indigenous Indians are the Nomlaki Tribe and to this day still have descendants living in the town. The river that runs through the town is the mighty Sacramento and makes for a beautiful vacation spot up and down this majestic river. This river is well known for its salmon fishing and also camping along the rivers banks. The fisherman will feel right at home in this pristine town called Tehama CA.
There are many places to be wined and dinned at in Tehama CA with the best being downtown. In 2005 after the fire, many of the businesses that were there before started to rebuild and now Tehama is an active thriving community once again. As with any natural disaster, time and labor are what is needed to rebuild plus a good amount of money. The town is a great place to start off a week long vacation in the Shasta Cascade Mountain range and would be a great place to grab a bite to eat and watch the river rafters go by. A family vacation to Tehama CA is one that will remembered for quite some time.
