About Lake Almanor

The town of Lake Almanor California is a mountain biker’s paradise with some of the best trails and bike paths available in the entire state. There are literally miles and miles of bike trails that encircle the lake, and the nearby national forest provides an additional plethora of biking trails. Some of the trails include the abandoned logging roads of yesteryear, that crisscross this entire topography for miles around. What Plumas County has done for the nature loving camper and backpacker and bicycle enthusiast is to take the old abandoned logging trails and convert them into bike and hiking paths. This is set up so perfectly for a family vacation and one that will make Lake Almanor one of the favorite memories for all time.

Lake Almanor California is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountain chain with the Cascade Mountain Range buttoned up right next to it. This combination of two of the world’s best mountain chains makes for a spectacular display of color, light, and outdoor opportunities for the entire family. There are copious amounts of flora and fauna that will assault every sense in your body and have you desiring more and more. The Northern California Region is well known as a wine and cheese lover’s paradise yet this is not what it is all about. The people make up for most of the brilliant activities that are positioned at a moments notice and only a few feet away for the intrepid visitor. The warmth of the location plus the happy smiles on the locals faces makes for a very great natural vacation. This town is full of natural history as well as cultural significance.

Any trip to this town will include a hike along the Biz Johnson Trail. This is a 25 mile trail that was once the roadbed of the Southern Pacific’s 130 mile Fernley and Lassen Branch Railway and it as been converted to a riding and hiking trail. You can almost hear the old steam engines pulling their loads of logs up and the lumber men yelling to the quarter masters down below the ravines and logging trails. A family vacation that’s centered on this wonderful town is one that is well worth the drive.

The entire county of Plumas and the town of Lake Almanor are situated at the bottom of two of the most pristine mountain ranges in all of California. The Sierra Nevada and The Cascades are what identifies this northern California area and makes them two of the most visited in the county. A trip to Lake Almanor California will be the one that the entire family will be speaking about long after you return home.
