Shasta County Information
Nestled in the very center of the Shasta-Cascade region is the remarkable Shasta County. The county is home to old ghost towns and new technological centers as well as some of the most breath-taking natural scenery in the United States. The county has the Sacramento River as its anchor waterway and also so many lakes and rivers and creeks to explore the problem are which one to take a dip in! Shasta County is one that will leave the family speaking of old cowboys and gold-miners for years to come.
The town of Redding is the most populous area in the county region. The town has a great many amenities for you to explore such as Lake Shasta, Lassen Volcanic Park, and the houseboat flotilla! The water surface of Lake Shasta is at times hard to see from the many houseboats that congregate there. The area is known as the ‘Houseboat Capital of the World’ and backs up this claim with the most vessels per square mile of any other waterway in the world. The lake is home to some of the best salmon and trout fishing around and it also the place where many visitors like to cool off in the hot summer months. The summer can see temperatures that hit 100 and the water is the place to be during these scorchers. The main draw of Shasta County is hard to pin-point since there are so many fine attractions to experience and love!
The locales that make up the residents of this county are some of the friendliest around. They are so welcoming as if they really want you to be there and see and experience the sites they enjoy on a daily basis. That makes the difference when you are selecting an area in which to spend your family vacation at. The love is there and it shows. Long before the touchy feely aspect of the green movement struck a visceral chord in the America the people of Shasta County were already in their 100th year of welcoming with, open-arms, and the entire United States vacationing army.
Shasta County is home to some of the most spectacular natural beauty examples in all of California. From the magnificence of the Shasta Dam to the serene and calming waters of the Sacramento River, there is too much to see and experience in this Northern California region. In the town of Burney, there is the beauty of the Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park which will leave you wondering when the next eruption might be! It is pure natural excitement like this that only adds to the thrill of a vacation to this place.
This region has something that the entire family will be talking about for many years to follow and it is not above ground. The Lake Shasta Caverns are an underground series of caves that will take your breath away from the sheer magnificence of their beauty! The cave tour starts out with a boat ride across Lake Shasta and concludes with you deep in the heart of the cave structure. The natural wonder of Shasta County is the main reason that droves of tourist and nature-lovers come to this Mecca of visual sensations each and every year.
The hiking and the boating and the spelunking all take a toll on the body and mind and this is where the many fine restaurants of Shasta County can be of assistance. There are thousands of top-rated restaurants in this Northern California area with some of the best being located in Redding. The Café at Turtle Bay is one as well as Hatch Cover that will ease those hunger pains and also excite the senses with their California appeal. The choice of where to grab a bite to eat is the hard part since there are so many restaurants, bistros, cafes, and lakeside eateries to select from in Shasta CA!
One of the nicest aspects of a trip to Shasta County would have to be the feel that you get while you and your family are there. There is something special about a trip to Northern California that is not replicated anywhere else in the state or country for that matter. The kindness, the openness, the smiles on the faces of the residents creates the trip of a lifetime even on a rainy day. The people make a vacation memorable and the natural beauty is a fine addition as well. The drive to this place is really a nice relaxing one straight up I-5 and a little to the right and there you are!
It does not really matter where in California you are arriving from the Shasta County area is so easy to access. The corridors are very well-maintained as well as the county roads and streets, they are all perfect and will glide you around to the natural beauty of the area. The trip here is one that will be the talk of the dinner table for awhile after returning home that is if you ever do return home?
The trip here is a great place to take the family and there is so much in the area of lodging that the choice is which place to stay at! One very interesting beautiful lodging option can be found at Mount Shasta Wilderness Cabins and Resort in Castella. Here the cabins and the cottages are very nice and will give you the feel of the Gold Rush days of yesteryear all within the friendly confines of Shasta County.
