The county has towns such as; Chico, Gridley, Oroville, Paradise, Trinity Center, Biggs, Concow, Durham, Magalia, Palermo, Richvale, Stirling City, and Thermalito as destinations that will charm and educate all that cross into their boundaries.

The splendid activities that await even the hardest to please vagabonds are all within reach in Butte County. There is the anchor spectacle that is Mount Shasta itself rising out of the pale blue and mauve sky like a signal that flashes, ‘welcome’. The active volcano is spectacular to see and even more interesting to learn about. The location of the mountain is within driving distance from any of the fine towns and hamlets that make up the entire Butte County area.

The environmental landscape of Butte County is not to be missed and it does not have to be as there is always the best hike in the entire locale! The hike to Whiskey Falls in Whiskey Town is a great way to get wet and get some really cool exercise! The waterfall was recently re-discovered and has been a great tourist attraction ever since. The environment also has other trails to discover like the ones that surround and eventually lead to the very top of Mount Shasta. What is more exciting than to hike through a region that has an active volcano in it then climb to the top of that massive beauty? The town of Oroville in Butte County is one of the most visited in the entire county. There you will find one of the best natural landmarks in the entire country, the largest earthen dam in the US! Oroville Lake has so many water related activities not to mention great trails and camping spots we will only have time to cover a couple. If fishing is you’re thing then you will do no better out west than the lake. There is a wide variety of fish to catch and Coho Salmon and largemouth bass are two of the favorites. The plethora of fishing related fun is all that any intrepid angler would care to have. The Butte County area has so many lakes, rivers, and crystal clear streams in which to toss a fly into it seems like an angler’s paradise!
