Yreka is pronounced Y’reeka, from the Indian word for ‘white mountain’. Yreka has been listed in the top 100 small communities in the US almost every year since 1990. The quaint but highly active town is located 22 miles south of the California border and right next to Interstate 5. The town of Yreka sits right in the northern most corner of the majestic Shasta Valley which offers wonderful views of Mount Shasta and the three other mountain rages that surround the area.

Any visit to Yreka California will be one filled with nature’s wonders and one of the main reasons people flock to see this adorable hamlet. There is golf, tennis, world class fishing, and hang gliding, hiking, and back packing just to name a few outdoor activities. There are also great restaurants and fine hotels so you can grab a bite to eat and have a place to stay for the night if you’re still inclined. Yreka is the most historic city in the region and this comes from its well preserved gold rush era philosophy which makes you feel like your stepping back in time. There are over 70 pre 1900 homes and a fair amount of old merchant stores that will make you feel like you need to go get your six shooter!
