The town of Shasta California is what is known as the ‘Queen City’ of the old Northern California mining district. The town is a great historical site for the Gold Rush of 1849 and also has tremendous views of Mount Shasta. There are so many old buildings and ruins in the town that the term ‘ghost’ readily applies. The town was a shipping center until 1872 when the California and Oregon Railroad laid track to the six-mile away city of Redding. This pretty much killed the town of Shasta as a vibrant merchant stage stop and turned it into the fabulous ghost town it is today. The thrill of maybe finding an ancient and historically relic of the Gold Rush is one that makes the trip worthwhile! There is bed and breakfast’s within the town as well as a few rooms to rent so any trip to Shasta CA is one that will be treasured for years to come.
