The City of Portola California, ’The Pride of the West’, is the only incorporated town in Plumas County. The locations heritage of Portola is one of extreme excitement. Once you get to Portola you will see this history come alive with one glimpse of the downtown area. The early pioneers who came to California looking for treasure in the Gold Rush of California to the railroad workers who opened the West up to the rest of the United States, you will see a historical reenactment right before your eyes. Combining the strength of two mountains, the Cascades and the Sierras, the area is loaded with fantastic hiking and camping possibilities. There is always something to eat in this town and finding a nice place to lay down for the night would not be much of a problem either.

The town of Portola California was created as through the logging industry and the railroads that inevitably follow the timber men’s success.
