The town of Fort Jones California was originally a trading post which was frequented by the Civil War soldiers that were stationed a half a mile away. Fort Jones started out as a fort that was used by the local Union Militia in the Civil War and soon became a life-saving stop on the way to Yreka for many soldiers. The Salmon River runs right through to the town of Fort Jones and is well known for its salmon runs and wonderful panoramic views. One word of caution though as the roads in the Salmon River area are winding and steep and can be extremely narrow, this makes it hard for larger RV’s to get around the bends and it is best to use a smaller vehicle to get around the mountain. The Scott Valley area is well known as a nature lover’s paradise and one that will stick in your brain and heart for a long time to come. Any trip to the Fort Jones CA area will be one that the family will remember forever.
